A software engineer, hailing from New Delhi and working in Bangalore, reportedly went missing while climbing down the monolithic hillock in the town on Sunday.
The techie is identified as Gaurav, who had climbed the hillock along with his friend Priyank, an engineer in the Ministry of Defence.
Stopped midway
Priyank could not scale the hillock and had stopped midway. The friends remained in touch with each other through their mobile phones. At around 6.30 pm, Gaurav reached the top of the hillock.
Priyank grew suspicious as Gaurav did not return even after many hours and it became dark. He immediately climbed down and informed the police and forest officials.
After several attempts to contact Gaurav’s phone number, the call went through at around 8.30 pm.
Stuck near a tree
They spoke to Gaurav, who said that he was stuck near a huge tree.
The police informed the fire personnel and launched efforts to trace Gaurav. Locals say that there are many bears in the area and that they could harm Gaurav.
