The Central Crime Branch (CCB) opened a case on July 7 and launched an investigation following a complaint from VC Gopalareddy, the DCP for the City Armed Reserve (CAR), West.

The DCP said that he was sold the flat located in Uttarahalli through an e-auction by Jana Small Finance Bank two years ago for Rs 28 lakh. He took a loan from another bank to make the payment.

On May 5, staff from Swarna Bharati Sahakara Bank evicted him without prior notice, claiming he was living illegally, as per the FIR.

When he checked, he found that Jana Small Finance Bank had not disclosed a pending mortgage on the flat sold to him before the sale.

He wrote to Jana Small Finance Bank to return the money he paid, but is yet to get a response, the FIR noted.

The police have invoked BNS sections 316 (criminal breach of trust) and 318 (cheating) against four staff of Jana Small Finance Bank and Swarna Bharati Sahakara Bank, a senior officer said.
