An important member of the infamous Bawaria gang has been arrested by the Bengaluru police in Gurgaon, Haryana, on suspicion that he masterminded a spate of chain-snatchings in the IT Capital of India.
Chatra Sena, a resident of Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, has been brought to Bengaluru. He was caught by a team of the HSR Layout police station, Dr Rohini Katoch Sepat, DCP (Southeast), told Deccan Herald.
The Bawaria gang is said to be involved in dozens of chain-snatchings in Bengaluru and across the country. Chatra Sena is suspected to have plotted more than a dozen chain-snatchings in Bengaluru, cracking which has proved a challenge for the police.
“There were warrants for his arrest. We acted accordingly and caught him,” Sepat added. “We’ll interrogate him about his role in chain-snatchings in Bengaluru.”
An associate of Chatra Sena had been arrested in 2014. During interrogation, he is said to have disclosed Chatra Sena’s role in chain-snatchings. A few months ago, the police in Ramanagar arrested another member of the Bawaria gang and he also spilled the beans on Chatra Sena’s involvement, according to the police.
