Bengaluru: Jagruta Matadarara Vedike, a lesser-known organisation, has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta against the BBMP, alleging that nearly 90 per cent of the project payment was released despite only 40 per cent of the work being completed at the citizen waterways project.

The project is estimated at Rs 179 crore and involves constructing a sewage treatment plant near KR Market, repairing the sewerage network, building retaining walls, and landscaping the 9-km stretch modelled on Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront.

Nagesh MR, the forum's secretary, pointed out that the project was to be completed in 10 months, but remains largely unfinished after two years and nine months.

BBMP denies claims

A senior BBMP official refuted the allegations, stating that 85 per cent of the project work has been completed, and only 75 per cent of the bills have been cleared. "This is a public project, visible to everyone. We even hosted a walkathon along the valley on November 25," the official added.

The Lokayukta is expected to investigate the claims further.
