Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath on Tuesday instructed officials to take immediate action against illegal buildings in Bengaluru East.
He was speaking after a grievance redressal meeting here during which over 50 complaints were received and discussed.
“Any illegal construction or violation of plan sanction should be identified and booked. As an additional step, Bescom will be notified to withdraw power supply to such buildings,” he noted.
Regarding a complaint on the launch of Cox Town market and distribution of stalls, the BBMP Chief noted that further actions will be taken within a week.
Moreover, he stated that people contributing to increasing black spots within the city will be booked and levied a fine. He also said that BBMP marshals have been instructed to ensure black spots are cleared out.
With footpath encroachments being a primary problem in the East zone, Amit Nigli, a resident of OMBR Layout in Banaswadi told DH he has requested the BBMP Chief to shed immediate light on this issue.
“Street lights in the parks of our zone are very dim or non-existent causing difficulty for residents to walk or exercise in the parks,” he said.
Demands from the residents of Hebbal included problems caused by four-wheeler parking in Amarajyothi Layout, Hebbal along with garbage dumping and encroachment of footpaths. Further, tree branches which are likely to cause risk to passersby were asked to be removed.
Maintenance of footpaths and the need for encroachment drives were raised by several residents of Kalpally.
