Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Climate Action Cell conducted an orientation workshop on Saturday for the newly established Bengaluru Climate Action Clubs. Representatives from over 45 schools and PU colleges participated in the workshop.
Over 700 schools and pre-university colleges have registered to form clubs under the BBMP's Climate Action Cell, which is aimed at empowering youth-led climate action at the institutional level.
Preeti Gehlot, Special Commissioner, BBMP, said that schools should now stand as an example in bringing about behavioural change.
“Global warming and extreme weather events are no longer distant concerns—they are everyday realities for Bengaluru. While our schools have initiated climate education, we now need hands-on engagement across schools, homes, and communities. Behavioural change is critical. With over 7,000 schools in Bengaluru and 731 registrations and 73 clubs already formed, schools must now lead by example,” she said.
A Climate Action Club Facilitator Handbook, which provides a structured framework for engagement in the field, was released during the event.
