The deputation of officials from other departments to the Palike has come under scanner in the wake of Vijay Kumar Patil, on deputation from the Public Works Department (PWD) allegedly assaulted a 70-year-old citizen and destroyed his property.

Majority of the officials ‘found guilty’ at the Palike are the ones deputed from other departments. And, with frequent deputations to the Palike, sources said neither the BBMP nor the Urban Development Department have maintained a deputation ledger to ascertain the number of personnel on deputation.

Hearing deferred

The Karnataka Information Commission has issued a show-cause notice to the Public Information Officer of the BBMP for not furnishing the details of the deputed officers. A citizen had sought information through RTI in December 2009. Since the details required were not furnished on time, the KIC gave time till Oct 11 this year and deferred the hearing to December 8.

According to KIC order, the BBMP Assistant Commissioner (Administration) B P Vasanthkumari was asked to show cause for failing to provide the requisite information. Sources said the information has not been made available yet.
