Kondaiah (59) succumbed to his injuries at the hospital after failing to respond to treatment, the police said.

The crash occurred on March 29 around noon at Thanisandra Main Road, when the child, Ayman, was riding pillion on his father’s bike.

The speeding truck driven by Kondaiah crashed into them and ran over Ayman, who had fallen onto the road. He was killed instantly.

An angry mob of around 15 people grabbed hold of Kondaiah and beat him to a pulp. They set his truck on fire by dousing it with petrol, the police said. Kondaiah sustained grievous injuries and was admitted to the hospital.

Following the death, a case was registered by the Sampigehalli police, and four people have been arrested, the police said.
