The BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik has issued a circular that henceforth the Health division of the BBMP will be responsible for the solid waste management (SWM) and the door-to-door garbage collection.

The commissioner noted that the situation did not improve despite carving out of the environment division to work in tandem with the SWM division. He observed in his circular that the SWM division, along with the Health department, can keep the City clean. The job of keeping the City clean has been delegated to all the health officers, starting from health inspectors to the chief health officer.

The junior health inspectors will start their work from 6.30 am till 2.30 pm at the ward level, who will check the attendance of the pourakarmikas and the number of vehicles employed on a daily basis.

The senior health inspectors will oversee the entire process of waste management at the ward level from 6.30 am to 2.30 pm. The health officers will have to submit a daily report on waste management in each ward of the City.
