Bengaluru: Following a reported dog bite incident at a prominent apartment complex in Konanakunte on Tuesday, the BBMP's animal husbandry officials have isolated the animal involved.
Residents said that a 13-year-old boy was bitten while playing in the apartment complex. They claimed the dog, reportedly old and diabetic, had bitten another resident a few months ago.
They now demand that authorities either relocate the dog or facilitate its adoption.
“Many children play here. There are four dogs in the area, which pose a risk to residents, especially children,” said Vasanth Kumar, president of the apartment’s residents’ welfare association.
On Wednesday, residents met with a local BBMP officer, with the Konanakunte police also present.
Frustrated by the lack of an immediate resolution, they reportedly prevented the officer from leaving until he assured them that action would be taken after consulting higher authorities.
The BBMP animal husbandry department confirmed that the dog had been vaccinated and neutered.
A senior official from the department stated that the dog has been taken away for 10 days as per protocol. “After this period, we normally release the dog back to the same area. It is not rabid. But since this is the second bite case involving the same dog, we may need to reassess our approach,” the official said.
The BBMP has also designated a feeding spot for the four dogs and instructed residents to direct the animals there, ensuring they are fed only in that area to minimise conflicts and interactions in common spaces.
