In the revised scheme of things, the zonal commissioner has been authorised to create an enforcement team comprising both personnel and machinery.

The team will include junior engineers, assistant engineers, and assistant executive engineers, assisted by marshals and the Prahari enforcement vehicle. They have also been empowered to file police complaints against offenders.

In the SOP, BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath has directed zonal offices to open a control room to receive complaints about unauthorised advertisements, flexes, banners, cut-outs, and similar displays.

The police department has also been asked to appoint a nodal officer to coordinate with the BBMP’s advertisement enforcement teams.

The expenses incurred for every removal will be recovered from people responsible for erecting illegal advertisements or flexes, as per Section 161 of the BBMP Act, 2020, the SOP read.
