Bengaluru: In a move aimed at bringing approximately five lakh properties into the tax bracket, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has introduced a hassle-free system for issuing e-khata.
The online facility, launched on Monday, is designed for property owners who lack even a manual khata.
Property owners can now generate a new BBMP khata by visiting the official website: https://BBMP.karnataka.gov.in/NewKhata. For those who already possess a BBMP khata and wish to upgrade to an e-khata, a separate website has been provided.
This initiative is expected to benefit property owners who previously refrained from obtaining a khata due to alleged harassment by BBMP revenue officials.
While the civic body earns annual property tax through khata issuance, property owners often faced bureaucratic hurdles. The new online system eliminates the need for physical visits to the BBMP offices, encouraging more people to apply.
To apply for a new BBMP khata, the following documents are required Aadhaar number, sale or registered deed number, property photograph,
Encumbrance Certificate (covering the period from the property’s registration date to October 31, 2024).
To further simplify the process, the BBMP has released a do-it-yourself training video on YouTube, guiding applicants on how to apply for a new khata without visiting BBMP offices.
