Bengaluru: In all likelihood, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will no longer issue 'B' khatas for plots that are neither approved nor formed by the planning authority.

It is working on a proposal to collect betterment charges from these properties and issue the 'A' khatas instead.

As part of this plan, the Karnataka government has notified the proposal to collect 5% of the guidance value for developing neighbourhood parks for small plots and mandate reserving 15% of the total area for large plots.

Tushar Girinath, Additional Chief Secretary at the Urban Development Department (UDD), said there was a plan to stop issuing 'B' khatas. "We are working on a proposal to simplify the process of obtaining building plan approvals," he said.

On average, 10,000 applications are filed for building plan sanction every year. Over 60% of these properties fall under the ambit of 'B' khata as BDA layouts are not formed in many parts of the city.
