Bengaluru: The BBMP has directed BWSSB officers to immediately construct a new drainage system on 12th Main Road and Cross Road in HAL 2nd Stage, warning that any delay would invite a Rs 1 lakh fine.
The directive was issued during a public grievance redressal meeting held at the BBMP East Zonal Commissioner’s office, after a local resident raised concerns over the existing drainage system. According to the resident, the existing drain was built nearly 50 years ago and is now not only in a dilapidated condition but also frequently blocked, causing wastewater to overflow onto the roads.
Responding to this grievance, the East Zone Commissioner, Snehal, instructed the BWSSB officials to complete the construction work without delay and warned that a penalty of Rs 1 lakh would be imposed in case of non-compliance.
Responding to complaints from residents of OMBR Layout regarding improper solid waste management and unauthorised constructions, Snehal also directed officials concerned to clean waste piled up on roadsides and initiate action to remove unauthorised buildings.
Another participant raised the issue of an unauthorised borewell dug in the middle of the road in HRBR 1st Block and the construction of an illegal ramp by an apartment complex affecting the smooth flow of rainwater. The commissioner instructed officials to seal the borewell and remove the ramp immediately.
Dry trees and branches posing a threat to passersby in KSFC Layout, poor maintenance of Coles Park, and inadequate street lighting were among the other issues raised.
A total of 22 grievances were received during the public interaction programme.
