On Friday, the SEC told the Karnataka High Court that it is prepared to hold the polls. The High Court, in its ruling earlier last month, had asked the State Government and the SEC to hold BBMP elections on or before March 30.
After a long drawn legal process, the High Court on Monday had rapped the State Government for seeking extension of time on account of the SSLC and PUC examinations. A division Bench headed by Justice V Gopala Gowda, had in its ruling, directed the State to submit the ward-wise reservation list within two days and enable the SEC to prepare for the elections.
A ruling party member said that the court direction has put the Government in a spot as teachers will be busy with examination work. Also, it will be difficult to get school premises for poll work. But the government will have to take measures for the conduct of the elections, he added. The HC insistence came after the Supreme Court had refused to interfere in the matter when the State had approached the Apex court with the same reasons.
