Kishore instructed officials to launch awareness programmes in all wards to educate residents and prevent the spread of the virus.
The BBMP’s animal husbandry officers, primary health protection officers, ASHA workers, Namma Clinic doctors, and staff from primary health centres have been directed to form teams and accelerate survey efforts to detect potential cases.
What is bird flu?
Bird flu, or avian influenza, is an infectious disease caused by the H5N1 virus, primarily affecting birds such as turkeys, ducks, guinea fowl, and baya weavers. While it spreads mainly among birds, humans can also contract the virus through direct contact with infected birds.
Precautions to be taken
Avoid contact with birds suspected to be infected and refrain from visiting farms.
If you visit affected areas, wash your hands, feet, and face with soap, change your clothes, and monitor your health for the next four days.
Consume chicken and eggs only after cooking them at temperatures above 70°C. Do not eat raw or infected eggs.
