The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike on Saturday suspended five of its officers for not performing their duties during the May 12 Assembly elections.

The suspended officers are: chief engineer Sidde Gowda and assistant executive engineer Ashok of the Bommanahalli zone; assistant executive engineer Anantraju and assistant engineer Siddiqui of HSR Layout; and assistant engineer Lakshmanappa of Domlur.

Their suspension orders came from BBMP additional commissioner for administration Nalini Atul. "The officers were suspended as they have not performed their duties properly during the elections," said a senior Palike official.

Voters faced difficulties in the city, especially in the Bangalore Urban and CV Raman Nagar constituencies where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) developed snags.

The snags were so severe that polling in Lottegollahalli in the Hebbal constituency had to be postponed to May 14. Several polling booths in Anekal also experienced technical glitches, resulting in delay in voting.
