Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Saturday asserted that flat owners will have to pay property tax for the exact area of the property registered in their name in the sale deed.
Over the last few days, many flat owners have received notices stating that they have been paying tax for a lesser area and that this needs to be rectified. This has not gone down well with owners, who claim they have been paying taxes for the area they actually own.
“What some citizens have been doing is declaring a smaller area in the property tax system than what is stated in their sale deed. Now, in e-khata, as sale deeds are obtained from Kaveri, the area therein has been compared with the area for which tax was paid. This was done electronically, as Kaveri provides the area of the flat in the sale deed,” the BBMP said in a statement.
The BBMP further clarified that the car parking area was not considered in the calculation. “Car parking is not added to the taxable area of the flat and is paid separately by everyone who declares car parking,” the statement said.
