A 21-year-old engineering student from Andhra Pradesh allegedly committed suicide at his hostel room on Kanakapura Road here on Monday, over what is suspected to be study pressure.

Y Nagababu, a fourth-semester student of electronics and communication at the KSIT at Raghuvanahalli, was hanging from the ceiling fan when his roommate returned from college in the afternoon, the Talaghattapura police said.

Nagababu, a native of West Godavari district, was not good at studies and had failed in some subjects, the roommate told the police. The deceased also had not done well in an entrance examination held recently.

He was under pressure but would neglect studies, instead watching films. On Sunday, he and his roommate watched a film and he appeared to be in good mood even hours before his alleged suicide, police said, adding that they had not found any suicide letter.
