When you hear the clunking sound of ice cream choppers, you know that the ice cream is being ‘smashed’ well, with all the ingredients and flavours blended in thoroughly. That’s exactly what goes around at ‘Stoned Monkey’ in Banashankari, where they juggle with the ice cream and perform interesting stunts while keeping people engaged in the process of preparing their favourite stone-beaten ice cream. And the aroma of freshly-made waffle cones only adds to the temptation.

A new addition to the locality, Stoned Monkey was started over a month back by brothers and passionate foodies Sai (a doctor) and Prasanth (an IT professional) who also own a sandwich store in the City. “We had heard about the Cold Stone Creamery in the US from our cousins. Stone beaten ice creams are a novel concept in India and we felt it would strike a chord with people in South Bengaluru, which lacks unusual culinary joints,” says Sai adding, “Premium quality ice cream, especially manufactured for us, is placed on a frozen granite slab and depending on the variation, toppings like cake, sauces, nuts, candies, chocolate and fruit are thrown in to be crushed with it.”

The team put their creativity to test and came up with 32 unique flavours within a month. Some of their decadent creations include ‘Red romance’ (vanilla ice cream with red velvet cake and a secret yummy add on), ‘Grape yard’ (chocolate and vanilla ice cream with red velvet cake, liqueur flavoured sauce and raisins), ‘Miss msg’ (chocolate and coffee ice cream with choco stick, choco chips, alpino truffle and liqueur flavoured sauce) and ‘Lavalicious’ (chocolate ice cream with choco stick and choco chips topped with hot choco lava cake).

“We have a special flavour called ‘Chikki bang (luru)’, with homemade ‘chikki’ and caramel sauce, to give Bengalureans a native taste. Then there’s ‘God’s own delight’ with a dash of kokum. ‘Mr Rocher’ (vanilla and chocolate ice cream with Ferrero Rocher, Nutella and hot fudge) is a favourite with many while those who don’t prefer chocolate ice cream can indulge in ‘Mrs Rocher’,” details Sai.

Connoisseurs can also dig into the ‘Classic chocolate fondue’ and they even cater to designer cakes on order.

“The concept has been well-received in the area and a lot of youngsters as well as families, including the older generation, have been coming here,” he says. Head over to the place for a ‘stoned’ experience between 11 am and 11 pm. Stoned Monkey is located at 415, 9th main, 24th cross, Banashankari second stage. For details, call 9972710694.
