As a mere 15-year-old in the modelling world, Kate Elizabeth Hallam climbed the stepping stones of the glamour industry. Now, with the title of Miss England and experience in both modelling and acting, beauty has a whole new meaning for her.

Having always been someone who follows her heart, Kate says that there’s one piece of advice she’d like to give aspiring models. “Beauty is always something that comes from within. No matter what you do on the outside, if you’re not happy inside it will never reflect,” she says.

Though she had stepped into the Advanced Hair Studio in the City to get some hair extensions, Kate says that she has always been comfortable with the way she looked. “My style mantra is to be comfortable in whatever I’m wearing and be happy at all times,” she adds.

Married to singer-composer Lucky Ali, one wonders if there’s been pressure on her to look and act a certain way. But she immediately dismisses all of that. “I have never been under pressure to look a certain way just because I am a wife of a celebrity. I have always been myself and never been obsessed with the way I look. Moreover, Lucky is not your typical celebrity. He is more of a homebody; he doesn’t go out partying all that much. Any free time he gets, he enjoys spending with the family. That’s what I really like about him,” she says.

Mother of a beautiful baby boy, Dani, Kate says that she is in the happiest phase of her life. “I never knew being a mother can be so satisfying. He keeps me on my toes and most of my time goes to him,” she says.

But that doesn’t mean Kate has completely given up her high heels. Now that her son is growing up, Kate is excited about getting back into the glamour industry. Talks are on of her working with designer Wendell Rodricks. As for Indian movies, Kate says she is open to good offers. “Language will be a problem as I am still picking up a little Hindi. I don’t watch too many Indian movies but I am aware of some of the actors and actresses,” she says.

Has her husband given her the go-ahead to get into the glamour industry? “Lucky and I both like to keep to ourselves. He’s busy composing music and is artistic, and I’m busy with Dani. Now that he’s growing, I feel a little settled and would like to do stuff of my own. If there are good roles for English girls, then he won’t have a problem with it.

Initially, he was a little apprehensive as he wasn’t sure how people would react but he is more than supportive,” she adds.

Settled in Bangalore for a few years now, Kate has made peace with the traffic and has even fallen in love with Indian food.

“I love sambhar and roti. Even when I go back to the UK, I am always looking forward to eating spicier food. With time, I feel more Indian,” she sums up.
