Lieutenant General Vipan Gupta, commandant of the ASC Centre and College assured that the situation at the Bellandur lake was under control.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday morning, Lt Gen Gupta said that a fire of this magnitude had never broken out before.
"There have been many instances of fire in the past but this is the first time that it has spread towards us. Our sentries are there, keeping a watch. We are alert in case of any eventualities," he said.
Lt Gen Gupta said that around 12.30pm on Friday their sentries noticed fumes emenating from the lake.
An 800-member troupe was pressed into action along with three fire tenders and five to six modified fire tenders. They alerted civic authorities as well.
The fire broke out at three to four different places in the lake.
"The fire started at the lakeside and spread towards the army area. The cause is a matter of speculation. It could have been started by the people who graze there or something to do with the pollutants," he said.
Lt Gen Gupta said they were concerned that it would spread to the camp area.
"Our area was not affected by previous fires. Now, we will take up this cause with the civic authorities," he said.
