Bengaluru: Social activist T J Abraham submitted a memorandum to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, requesting him to approach the President and seek intervention in resuming the probe against IPS officer Hemant Nimbalkar in the IMA case.
Speaking to reporters later, Abraham suggested that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had “stalled” the probe against Nimbalkar, despite a Supreme Court stay on quashing the FIR against him.
Abraham said that Nimbalkar had supervised the investigation into the IMA scam when he was Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) and had given a clean chit in the case. Later, the CBI took over the case and filed an FIR against Nimbalkar. However, the High Court of Karnataka ordered the quashing of the FIR, according
to Abraham.
“The CBI moved the Supreme Court and obtained a stay in quashing the FIR against Nimbalkar. Despite the Supreme Court stay, the CBI hasn’t resumed the probe,” Abraham said.
He hoped that the Governor would write to the President and ask for the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to direct the CBI to resume the probe.
