Bengaluru: The Bengaluru police have arrested a 24-year-old canter driver for allegedly killing an autorickshaw driver during an altercation last week.

The suspect has been identified as Vinay Kumar, a resident of Basavanakatte. The police have invoked the BNS section dealing with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The deceased has been identified as Rangaswamy.

According to the police, on the night of May 18, Rangaswamy was yelling and hurling abuses at passersby while under the influence of alcohol. Kumar confronted him, but Rangaswamy picked a fight and pushed Kumar. In retaliation, Kumar pushed Rangaswamy, who fell and sustained severe head injuries.

The police said that Rangaswamy was shifted to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Kumar was arrested following the death.
