The deceased, Manjunath TC (55), was a resident of Ullal Upanagar in the city and hailed from Tiptur in Tumakuru district.

The incident occurred around 9 pm inside the crowded mall. The jurisdictional Malleswaram police rushed to the spot.

A note was recovered from Manjunath. "A preliminary probe has found that the deceased had substantial debts, to the tune of Rs 2 crore,” a police investigator told DH. “This was the reason behind him taking the step, going by the note he left behind,” a police officer said.

The police are trying to trace his family members. Further probe is underway.
