Bengaluru : A 31-year-old employee of a private company filed a case of blackmail, extortion and torture by a group of friends. It is alleged that the prime accused-- who was living at the complainant's house for a few months-- video recorded a video of the victim's mother by installing a hidden camera in the bathroom.

Yelahanka New Town police are currently investigating the case.

The accused threatened to leak the video on social media after she passed away. The victim was then forced to masturbate in an open place-- an incident which was recorded as well.

The accused continued extorting money and forced him to get involved in drug peddling .

A senior police officer said that according to the FIR, the complainant has stated that the prime accused, Prashanth B.R, had come to his house in Thindlu in 2018 and began living with him.

During his stay Prashanth allegedly filmed the privacy of the complainant's mother.

A few days later she passed away and the accused showed the video to him to blackmail. Police said the accused repeatedly extorted money from the complainant by threatening to release the video and also pressured him to supply drugs to some of his friends and he was forced to consume drugs by paying money for all of them during a gathering.

As the accused continue to extort money more than Rs 50,000 over the years and demanded to pose for obscene photos and videos and performing sexual acts with accused's girlfriend, the victim attempted suicide a couple of times.

His documents, including Aadhaar, PAN, bank papers, and personal belongings were also taken by the accused.

Unable to bear the harassment, humiliation and constant blackmail, the complainant decided to file a case with the police and he further alleged that the accused continued these acts between 2018 and 2024, causing severe mental trauma.

An investigation officer told DH, "Based on the victim’s statement and the evidence submitted, a case has been registered and investigation is under way. A case of has been registered against Prashanth along with 10 others on the charges of Information Technology Act, 2000: Section 66(E) – Violation of privacy and The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023: Section 115(2) – Assault or use of criminal force with intent to dishonour (or related provision depending on context). Section 308(2) – Attempt to commit culpable homicide (aggravated). Section 351(3) – Criminal intimidation (aggravated)".
