According to the police, on April 22 at 9:08 am, the official email ID of Acharya Institutes received the message. As per the FIR, the email warned of an explosion on the college premises. It also threatened that the principal would be chopped into pieces and kept inside a refrigerator.

As soon as the email was received, Manish Kumar Thakur, the COO of the group, lodged a complaint with the police. Initially, the police registered a non-cognizable report (NCR). After obtaining the court’s permission, the Soladevanahalli police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on April 26.

The case was registered under Section 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “Prima facie, it appears to be an attempt at mischief and phishing,” a police investigator said. “A further probe is underway to trace the origins of the email.”
