Bengaluru: Two people were electrocuted on Monday while clearing rainwater at an apartment complex in southeastern Bengaluru, officials said.

The deceased have been identified as Manmohan Kamath (63) and Dinesh (12).

The police said Kamath, a resident of Madhuvan Apartment in NS Palya near BTM 2nd Stage, was trying to clear water accumulated in the cellar during the incessant rains around 6.15 pm.

"He brought in a motor, connected it to a socket, and when he tried to pump out the water, there was a short circuit, leading to his electrocution,” a police officer involved in the investigation said.

At the same time, Dinesh — the son of a Nepalese man employed at the apartment complex — who was playing nearby was also electrocuted, police added.

Some residents managed to disconnect the motor and retrieve the bodies. The two were declared dead by doctors at the hospital.

Unnatural Death Reports (UDRs) will be registered in both cases, an officer confirmed.
