The arrested suspects, Arun alias Temu from RS Palya and Naveen from Banaswadi, are in their 30s. "The two played key roles in the murder and are currently in judicial custody,” a senior police officer said.

"We have learnt that it was Arun who butchered the victim during the attack with weapons. Naveen also played a similar role,” he added.

Shivakumar (40) was murdered near his residence on Meanee Avenue Road in Bharathinagar on the night of July 15. Five suspects had earlier surrendered and were arrested.

Another suspect, RD Anil, has been detained for questioning for allegedly providing a Mahindra Scorpio used as the getaway vehicle. “He is suspected of supplying the vehicle used in the criminal act. If his role is established, he will be arrested,” an officer said.

Sources said that Anil is a close relative of BJP MLA Byrathi Basavaraj, who has been named as Accused No 5 in the FIR. Senior police officials have declined to officially confirm this link.

The MLA was questioned on Saturday. The FIR stated that he supported the assailants. He has been summoned again on Wednesday.

Prime suspect still at large

Jagadish alias Jagga, named as Accused 1, remains absconding.

The police searched his house and office on Sunday and reportedly found "incriminating documents".

“Investigation is underway from all angles. We are going from the bottom to the top and will soon arrest all those involved in the crime,” a senior officer said.
