Bengaluru: Bengaluru was the third-slowest city in the world in 2024, according to the TomTom Traffic Index.
Bengaluru was behind only Baranquilla (Colombia) and Kolkata in traffic congestion. Average travel time per 10 km in Bengaluru last year was 34 minutes and 10 seconds, with a congestion level of 38%. The city lost 117 hours during rush hours, the report notes.
In Asia, Bengaluru was the second-most congested city, while Kolkata occupied the top spot.
Significantly, the average travel time per km in Bengaluru increased by 10 seconds in 2024 compared with 2023.
In 2023, Bengaluru was the sixth-most congested city in the world and the second in 2022.
The report, prepared by TomTom, a Dutch location and mapping technology company, was released on January 7. In its 14th edition, the report gives an overview of traffic trends from 500 cities across 62 countries.
