Bengaluru: Days after a 68-year-old man was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs, on Tuesday, two students from the Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics located within the Jnanabharathi campus were attacked by a group of stray dogs.
Sources in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) confirmed to DH that the stray dog attack happened when the students were on their morning walk.
According to senior BBMP officials, while one of the students suffered as many as 10 deep wounds, the attack on the other student was mild. However, both the students were not attacked together, but around the same time, but 100 meters apart.
The students were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where they remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) till 6 pm.
None of them is critical and by evening, both of them were stable and doing well,” the official confirmed to DH.
According to sources in BBMP, Bengaluru reports close to 2,000 dog bite cases every month. Asked if BBMP was taking any action to prevent such incidents, senior officials said that they do identify aggressive dogs and move them into observation centres.
However, many citizens complain that BBMP has not been proactive in taking any measures.
