Lokanath Singh (37) was found murdered near an under-construction building in BGS Layout near Bilijaji village in Soladevanahalli, the police said. The incident occurred around 5.30 pm on March 22.

A passerby alerted the authorities about the incident.

On Monday, the police arrested Singh’s wife, Yashasvini, 19, and her mother, Hema Bhai, 37, for allegedly stabbing him to death.

The police said Yashasvini had married Singh a few months ago against her parents' wishes. However, she later grew suspicious of her husband and discovered that he was having an affair, officers said.

"When confronted, they had disagreements, and Yashasvini distanced herself from Singh, eventually moving back to her parents' house," an investigator told DH.

On Saturday, Yashasvini contacted Singh and arranged to meet him near Bagalur. After a conversation, the couple drove to Soladevanahalli, where she allegedly gave him food laced with sleeping pills.

The police said Hema had been tailing the couple as they drove toward Soladevanahalli. When Singh became drowsy and started to sway, Hema and Yashasvini attacked him with a knife, slashing the back of his neck.

Singh died before he could be taken to a hospital. The police have booked the mother and daughter under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) dealing with murder.
