Bengaluru: The body of an unidentified woman was found stuffed in a gunny bag thrown into a garbage truck in southern Bengaluru in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
The bag's irregular shape drew the attention of a local resident who had come to dispose of garbage in the truck near the CK Acchukattu playground around 1.45 am.
The resident, a software professional, went straight to the local police station. A night-duty policeman rushed to the scene and opened the bag only to discover the woman's body inside, with her hands and legs tied.
There were no external wounds on the body except for blood dripping from the nose and bruises near the mouth. Police believe that the woman was likely aged between 30 and 35 years.
"The identity of the deceased is yet to be established. From the looks of it, the death happened by smothering,” a police officer close to the investigation told DH.
When asked if the woman was sexually assaulted, the investigator did not rule it out but said that would be determined only by post-mortem.
Police believe that the body was disposed of during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. CCTV footage shows an auto-rickshaw moving around in the area around that time. Police suspect that the body was transported by this auto but are still investigating.
The truck is usually parked in the same spot every night. The suspect may be a resident of the area or knows it all too well, police add.
The CK Acchukattu police have taken up a murder case under BNS Section 103.
