Bengaluru: A Bescom contract worker has been arrested for allegedly robbing two finance company employees of Rs 6.5 lakh using a fake gun in broad daylight.
The suspect is 36-year-old Narayanamurthy, a resident of Horamavu. Two of his accomplices are on the run.
A police officer said Yogesh and Ramalinga, employees of a finance firm based in Mysuru, had come to Bengaluru to collect gold and cash from clients. The firm releases gold pledged from banks and buys it from customers.
Narayanamurthy allegedly contacted the duo, claiming he wanted to hand over 69 grams of gold pledged in a bank and asked them to come near the branch.
On December 10, as soon as the staff reached the place, Narayanamurthy and two of his accomplices arrived on a two-wheeler. They threatened the employees at gunpoint, later found to be a toy gun, and snatched a bag containing Rs 2.5 lakh from Ramalinga. When Yogesh raised an alarm, the gang assaulted him and took another Rs 4 lakh before fleeing.
Yogesh managed to call the police helpline 112, following which the Hennur police arrested Narayanamurthy from his home.
Police have recovered Rs 4 lakh from him and are attempting to trace the two other suspects.
