Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have booked a rape case against BJP leader Somashekar, alias Gym Soma, following a complaint by a 26-year-old woman. Investigators are on the lookout for Soma, according to police sources.
According to police officials, Soma knew the complainant through a common friend and had promised financial support for her marriage. A few months back, he allegedly took her to his flat from her PG accommodation on the pretext of lending her money for her marriage but instead made a sexual move on her.
Police sources said that the woman got engaged last year; hence, she had asked for financial help. Soma is suspected to have fled the city, while the police are on the lookout for him.
The suspect Soma unsuccessfully contested the 2018 assembly polls from Hassan's Sakleshpur constituency.
