The squad comprising 200 policemen of the Central Armed Reserve (CAR) would be set up by June, 30, 2011, City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidar said at a New Year get-together of police officers.

He said the force, to be headed by a DCP and assisted by ACPs, would have policemen within 35 years of age, who would be trained in all areas of tackling terror strikes.

A few of them will also be sent to the National Security Guard (NSG) training centre at Manesar in Haryana to acquire additional skills. Besides, anti-sabotage check and bomb disposal teams would be placed under the unit, Bidari added.

All the members of the special squad are trained in using modern fire arms including AK-47 and SLRs. They have been educated on explosives and all can drive bikes and four-wheelers. The entire team would swing into action in case of any eventuality.

Bullet-proof vehicles and jackets have already been purchased for the squad.

The City police decided to form a special squad in the wake of serial blasts and explosions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The commando force is headquartered at CAR Centre.

The Anti-terror squad will join the Coast Guard and Anti-Naxal Force in the internal security division set up by the State Government.

The Commissioner greeted his subordinate officers, especially those who worked on field in ensuring peace and harmony all over the City previous year.

“Some errors might have occurred in the force because of some unavoidable circumstances. But, the officers should not worry about them as the top brass will be doubly cautious during the present year,” Bidari told his colleagues.
