B'lore girl tops science Olympiad

Among 7,000 schools in Asia which participated in the 14th National Science Olympiad, Debeshee Das, a Class V student of Bethany High School got the first rank in the internationally acclaimed competition.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, th Das said she had taken the exam last year but did not qualify for level 2 of the exam.

Friend insists

“A good friend of mine went on to stand second in the exam. She pulled me up for not having made it. This time I was determined to clear the Olympiad,” she said.

Debeshee had been preparing for about a year for the exam and has made rigorous preparations for one month before the exam held in February. “Luckily there were no class tests at that time and for few days I put school work aside to study for this,” she said.

Other interests

Apart from studies, Das is passionate about music and is being trained in Hindustani vocal and is also taking painting classes. Das aims to be an aeronautical engineer.
