After excelling in IT and BT sector, the State is all set to give the much needed filip to the Animation, Visual Effects ,Gaming and Comics (AVGC) sector.

Soon, the City will have a State-of-the-art post production laboratory and a Digital Media City. Announcing this, the Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology S R Patil, said that the State is planning to set up a post-production processing facility on a public-private partnership (PPP model) for the animation and gaming sector. He was speaking at the curtain raiser of the three-day Association of Bangalore Animation Industry (ABAI) Fest which will begin in the city today.

“Once this facility, estimated at a cost of Rs 20-24 crore, is set up, most of the related work which was being done in Chennai and Mumbai will come to the city. The State’s animation, gaming, visual effects and comics (AVGC) sector will stand to benefit a lot from this. The Department of IT/ BT is working with ABAI on the details of the facility,” he said.

Srivatsa Krishna, secretary of department of IT/BT and S&T said that Ernst and Young have been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a blue print for setting up of Media and Digital City.

In 2012, Karnataka became the first State in the country to initiate a policy for animation, visual effects, gaming and comics, popularly called as KAVGC Policy. Director of the department of IT/ BT Tanushree Deb Barma, ABAI president Biren Ghose and others were present.
