The Pulwama attack echoed in Bengaluru on Friday after a group of men barged into the Karachi Bakery in Indiranagar and ordered the staff to remove the word “Karachi” from the signboard.
The incident happened around 7.30 pm. As many as 10-15 men allegedly threatened the bakery staff, demanding to know the reason behind the brand name.
The men - claiming to be locals and against Pakistanis - asked them for the name and credentials of the owner of the bakery. The bakery staff, around 13 of them, tried to convince the men that it was a “brand name” and the owner was a Hindu.
As the drama played out, one of the bakery staff managed to inform the police, who rushed to the spot in a Hoysala patrol vehicle. On spotting the police, the men took to their heels.
“We have taken up a case and are trying to identify the culprits analysing the CCTV footage,” said Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad, DCP (East division). “We will intensify patrolling near the bakery and if need be, we will provide them with security personnel too”.
The rattled staff continued with the business later in the evening. “We received a call from our brand entrepreneurs who inquired about the incident, but we have convinced them that the issue was trivial and it was solved,” said a bakery staffer.
