BMTC 'Bus Day' on two routes today

According to a release issued by the State-run corporation here, the day is being observed to spread awareness among the travelling public and citizens about the deteriorating traffic scenario and quality of air in the City and solving it through a shift from personalised vehicles to public transport.

The BMTC will operate extra buses on the above two corridors from important traffic hubs such as Kempegowda Bus Station, Shivajinagar, K R Market, Vijayanagar, Basaveshwaranagar, Vidyaranyapura, Koramangala, Madiwala etc during the morning and evening peak hours from Thursday.

The BMTC is also pressing into service additional feeder buses at two routes to provide easy access to Electronic City and ITPL (Whitefield) at a frequency of five minutes on the occasion of Bus Day. They are: Konnappana Agrahara; Electronic City Main Gate and Marathahalli; Hope Farm via Kundalahalli, Graphite India, Satyasai Hospital, ITPL.

Transport Minister R Ashok told reporters that he has directed all officers of the BMTC to travel by bus on Thursday. The minister himself will take a bus from Jayanagar IV Block to reach his office in Vidhana Soudha. Depending on the feedback to the pilot programme, the BMTC will extend the programme to other major corridors in Bangalore. Every month, one day will thus be observed as ‘Bus Day’, he added.
