Bengaluru: The checking staff of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has intensified checks of buses operated in and around the city to detect ticketless travelling.
In April and May, the staff checked 38,116 trips and penalised 5,706 ticketless passengers by collecting Rs 12,64,051 as penalty. They booked 3,500 cases against conductors for dereliction of duty. They also penalised 652 male passengers for occupying seats reserved for women and imposed fines of Rs 65,200. About 6,358 passengers were penalised and Rs 13,29,251 has been collected as penalty.
