A 45-year-old man, working at the elephants’ enclosure in the Bannerghatta National Park (BNP), committed suicide by hanging from a tree branch inside the park in the early hours of Wednesday.

The victim, Kalappa, a native of Mysuru, was assisting mahouts and lived alone at one of the BNP’s quarters, the police said.

According to the police, the incident came to light around 9.30 am when one of his colleagues found his body hanging from the tree.

He had abandoned his family over the past six years and lived alone. This could have led him to slip into depression, a senior police officer said.

No suicide note was found, the police said.

The Bannerghatta police have registered a case of unnatural death.
