The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has indicated that the current practice of stamping boarding passes at the Kempegowda International Airport counters (KIA) here will be withdrawn eventually.

This will be possible once self-check-in kiosks are introduced at the airport to help passengers get a boarding pass without going to the counters. Passengers could swipe the pass at a barcode scanner and be let inside. The CISF is currently in discussions with the airport authority in this regard.

However, the KIA’s operators, the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), maintained that these processes are at a very preliminary stage.

A BIAL spokesperson had this to say: “At KIA, the security and safety of our passengers and other stakeholders are of paramount importance.

“To this end, BIAL works closely with both regulatory authorities and sovereign functions to ensure that we use the most current, cutting-edge technologies in security checks.”

The BIAL, the spokesperson said, is prepared to implement new initiatives, based on requirements put forward by regulators and security agencies.
