According to Madanayakanahalli police, Siddesh came to know about Valentine’s Day through television just the previous day. Soon, he wrote a love letter addressing a girl studying in 9th standard whom he had a crush on and brought it along to school. The teacher, while checking Siddesh’s homework, found the letter in his bag and questioned him about it. The teacher also told him to bring his parents on February 15.

Siddesh was scared his parents would punish him. After school hours, instead of heading home, he went to a farm near the school and hanged himself from a tree. Later, villagers noticed the body and alerted the police.

The boy’s father Siddaraju and mother Sannama Rathna, from Andhra Pradesh, are residents of Kenchanahalli village in Madanayakanahalli. They are daily wagers at a construction site. Police took a statement of Indira C S, the principal of the school as part of the investigation.
