Top officials confirmed that the post-mortem report showed no signs of sexual abuse.

Gurumurthy, 27, and Gopi, 25, were arrested on August 1 after the police shot them in the legs. They are accused of abducting and murdering Nishcith A, whose body was found in a deserted area in Kaggalipura on July 31, a day after he was kidnapped from Arakere while returning home from tuition.

Senior officers said the motive was financial, and that the child was killed as Gurumurthy feared he would identify them if let free.

"Gurumurthy first met Nishcith's mother a few months ago after she booked his car through a driver rental app. He later persuaded her to contact him directly for trips. During several such rides, he overheard the family discussing real estate and hatched the plan to kidnap the child solely for monetary gain,” a senior officer said.

The suspects are recovering at a hospital, and the police will seek their custody for further investigation.
