Brain-dead man's organs donated

The traffic police on Friday created a green corridor between Victoria Hospital and Narayana Health City to facilitate the transportation of the heart of a brain-dead mentally challenged person.

 
The deceased, Umesh Kumar (32), was a resident of Chikkaballapur. He had a fall while he was on the way to attend a Harikatha programme, according to the family. The recipient was a 51-year-old male from Coorg.

The patient's liver and kidney have also been donated by the family. According to officials from Zonal Co ordination Committee of Karnataka for Organ Transplantation, the liver will be transplanted to a recipient at Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) Hospital (PMSSY) in Victoria Hospital campus.

One kidney will be sent to a recipient at the Institute of Nephro Urology in Victoria hospital and the other will be sent to Sagar Hospitals. His cornea will be given to Lions Eye Bank.
