Bangalore University is all set to hold its 50th annual convocation at the Jnanajyothi Auditorium in Central College on Saturday, amidst confusion over its trifurcation.

If things go as per the State government's plans, this could be the last convocation of the university before being split into three varsities.

The university will award 199 gold medals and 77 cash prizes. There are 92 first-rank holders who will be getting the medals and prizes. As many as 47,202 students are eligible for degree certificates this year.

Of this, 519 students have secured distinction, 24,332 have secured first class, 16,399 have secured second class and 5,784 have cleared with pass class marks. Among them, 32,526 students (including undergraduate and postgraduate) have applied for degree certificates. There are also around 212 PhD students.

Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, Prof B Thimme Gowda, Vice Chancellor, Bangalore University, said three honorary doctorates will be awarded on the occasion. The doctorates are being given to Parvathamma Rajkumar, G K Narayana Reddy, an educationist, and S Chinnaswamy Mamballi, a former CPWD official.

The vice chancellor told reporters that he would be meeting the Higher Education minister over trifurcation, next week.

“The university has already written thrice to the minister and twice to the chief minister. There has been no response from the government’s end,” he added
