The thing which could only be seen in weddings and family gatherings, is gaining popularity in the City’s restaurants too – buffet. A buffet is usually a system of serving meals in which food is placed in a public area where the diners generally serve themselves. Buffets are offered at various places including hotels and many social events.

Buffets are effective for serving large numbers of people at once. For this reason, they are prevalent in big settings, such as business conventions or large parties. Another advantage of buffets compared to table service is that diners have a great deal of choice and the ability to closely inspect food before selecting it. And this trend is catching up the Indian market, where people are also preferring to go for buffet lunches or dinners.

A buffet can be considered as an informal form of dining as it involves diners serving themselves. And that is why buffetss are increasingly getting popular among hosts of home dinner parties, especially in homes where there is a limited space. Following this trend are the restaurants in Delhi.

The Great Kabab Factory is one of them which only has buffet and no individual serving. “We serve five varieties of kebabs along with two types of dal, vegetarian/ non-vegetarian biryani, vegetable/chicken curry, chicken breast and then dessert.”
“We get more than a 100 people each day and this does mean that buffet culture is getting popular in the City,” said Kamlesh Kumar from The Great Kabab Factory.

The price of buffets are quite reasonable and people love the eat-how-much-you-want buffets because they can choose what they want to eat and go back for second helping, if they like.

Buffets are also associated with celebrations of any sort and that is the reason why people are organising get-togethers in restaurants which provide this facility. It is a great way to treat people with a great variety of food and at cheaper prices too as compared to a la carte. Virtually every restaurant in town is serving buffet but the ones to head for include the Chor Bizzare and Oh! Calcutta, which serves authentic Bengali cuisine only.

And Barbeque Nation needs a special mention, which introduced the international concept of a live grill for the first time in India. The restaurant offers a unique option where the customers can make their own food on their personal grills embedded on each table. It also offers vegetarian and non-vegetarian starters in unlimited portions, soups, salads and desserts along with main course buffet!
