The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Burdwan blast case, seized incriminating material from a house in Soladevenahalli, North Bengaluru, on July 7.
Based on the information provided by the arrested accused Habibur Rehman, the NIA seized five fabricated hand grenades, a one-timer device, three electric circuits, suspected explosive substance, different components for making IEDs/rockets and several other materials. The hand grenades were allegedly fabricated as a part of a conspiracy to commit terror acts in different parts of the state.
Rehman, said to be a member of the proscribed JMB (Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh), was arrested in Doddaballapur on June 25 and remanded in police custody by an NIA court in Kolkata. Rehman was charge-sheeted as an absconder in the Burdwan blast case probed by the NIA. “While evading arrest, he was a part of a JMB module which intended to wage war against the democratic set-up of the state by conspiring to commit terror acts,” an NIA release stated.
In pursuance to this conspiracy, he and other members of the JMB, was involved in raising funds by committing dacoities in Bengaluru in 2018. The recovery, which included a pistol, has been effected while Rehman is in police remand. In this connection, a fresh case has been registered at the Soladevanahalli police station against him and other cadres of the JMB under sections 18, 38, 40 of UAP Act and 34, 121, 121A and 120(B) of the IPC.
