Bengaluru: A BMTC driver allegedly tried to run over a woman following a minor accident at Queen's Circle near Cubbon Park, the police said. The BMTC has suspended the driver pending a departmental inquiry.

The incident occurred around 5.40 pm on May 23.

The rear right side of the BMTC bus, operating from JJ Nagar to Nagavara (route number TR 4/9), brushed against the front portion of the woman's electric car (MG ZS).

The woman — Dr Deekshitha Reddy Y, 30, — got off her car and stood in front of the BMTC bus, blocking its path at the signal and attempting to question the driver.

The bus did not stop and almost knocked her down, but she stepped aside in the nick of time, according to footage taken by the back dashcam of a passing car.

"Based on initial findings, the driver has been placed under suspension pending further departmental inquiry. The BMTC reiterates its commitment to passenger and public safety and will take necessary disciplinary action based on the outcome of the investigation," the BMTC said in a statement.

The woman also lodged a complaint at the Cubbon Park traffic police station. According to her, she was travelling with her father, mother, and elder brother when the bus came from behind at high speed and, in a negligent manner, hit their car.

Due to the collision, the front-left side of the car — including the bumper, headlights, fender, mirror, door, and other parts — was damaged. After the accident, she asked the bus driver to stop, but he did not and drove off, almost running her over, she added.

The police have booked the bus driver — Prashanth, attached to depot number 17 — under BNS Section 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and Section 134(a and b) of the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, which require the driver involved in an accident to provide medical attention for the injured person and notify the police.
